The Golden Pu-erh Tea blend from English Tea Store is aged for 5 years deep in the mountain caves of Yunnan, China. As with wine, Pu erh tends to get more valuable as it ages, and Pu erh that is 5 years or older is more rare and therefore, more highly prized. This blend has a hint of mustiness with a bit of earthy character sometimes described as old or elemental. Compared to young pu-erh, this tea is quite mild. A study in Japan indicated that all teas lower cholesterol, but that Pu erh is more effective than green tea. Some followers of "Chinese tea for health" believe that Pu erh can "cut the grease, help digestion, promote body fluid secretion, quench the thirst, invigorate the spleen, and dispel alcoholic toxins." For the best brew, we recommend this Golden Pu-erh steep in water that has been brought to a rolling boil for 2-10 minutes.
